GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs law enforcement and general police services for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Responds to calls for police service within DART jurisdiction to include, but not limited to:
- Investigating crimes, accidents and incidents; Arresting suspects and violators; Settling disputes; Directing traffic; Assisting the public; Detaining individuals; Issuing citations, and other patrol activities.
- Interfaces with local police departments located within DARTs service area.
- Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations.
- Conducts security surveys
- Develops crime prevention approaches/measures.
- Performs special assignments.
- Prepares a variety of reports for management review such as investigation results, activities, status reports, etc.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications. - High school diploma, or G.E.D. plus twelve (12) hours college credit from an accredited college or university.
- Successful completion of Basic Peace Officer training requirements of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a prerequisite for licensing to practice law enforcement in the State of Texas, carry a service pistol or revolver, and perform law enforcement duties as required.
- Written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels, both inside and outside of DART.
- Analytical and creative skills to find solutions to problems.
- Proficient using PC and software applications.
- Valid Texas Drivers License or possess a comparable drivers license from another state of the United States. No Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last 60 consecutive months; not more than one (1) on driving record. No more than three (3)moving violation convictions within last 36 months.
- Pass DOT physical (medical) examination which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART revenue vehicles.
- Successful completion of selection process including but not limited to polygraph exam, psychological evaluation, and background investigation

Reports to Chief DART Police *

Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
