GENERAL SUMMARY:
Working as a part of a team, performs system planning and travel demand forecasting functions for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) capital development program. Position performs highly technical transportation modeling including developing, maintaining and managing the transportation model, including related data development and model iterations as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs ridership forecasting functions in support of system planning studies, impact analysis, bus planning and alternative analysis for rail, bus, and HOV projects.
  2. Codes transit routes and approach links into model readable form.
  3. Applies series of computer programs that constitute the travel forecasting models.
  4. Processes, analyzes, executes, and presents data from forecasting model runs.
  5. Gathers and distributes forecast related information between various individuals and entities.
  6. Prepares a variety of reports for management review.
  7. Remains current on new industry trends, methods, and technology by reading journals and attending seminars and workshops both inside and outside of DART.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Bachelors degree in Transportation Planning/Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field. A Masters Degree in Transportation Planning/Engineering, Traffic Engineering, and Urban Planning is a plus.
  2. Three (3) years progressively responsible experience in a transit planning or related environment.
  3. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of urban and regional transportation planning and modeling.
  4. Direct experience in travel demand forecasting and coding for transit, using TransCAD. Experience with EMME2, TranPlan, or Cube will be considered. Programming in GISDK and micro-simulation a plus.
  5. Ability to find solutions to complex and difficult problems, conduct statistical analyses, graphically present data, and draw logical conclusions from statistical relationships.
  6. Excellent oral and communication skills are essential to communicate complex information to all levels of employees, and others both inside and outside of DART.
  7. Physical ability to be mobile and occasionally work out of the office at a remote location and/or in the field.
  8. Personal computer (PC); software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheet, data base, and GIS.
  9. Demonstrated quantitative analysis skills.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to AVP Capital Planning *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
