GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for supervising the programs and activities of Signal System personnel engaged in signal system maintenance for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Ways, Structures & Amenities Division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs routine supervisory duties related to personnel maintaining DARTs signal systems; assist in development and training of Signal Maintainers.; provides support on special maintenance projects.
  2. Develops, monitors, and maintains pertinent documentation associated with the preventative maintenance program for the Signal Systems Section; prepare a variety of reports for management review.
  3. Oversees the Signal Systems Section databases/work order system; schedule, oversee, and monitor assignments to optimize utilization of signal workforce; monitor the performance of detailed maintenance assignments.
  4. Oversees system performance and provides solutions to problems.
  5. Develops, maintains, and monitor inventory spare part inventory, equipment, tools, test equipment, and safety equipment.
  6. Acts as liaison between Maintenance Department and internal/external contacts involved in signal system maintenance or signal operations.
  7. Promotes and enforces established training, safety practices and procedures, and take precautions as needed.
  8. Writes Work instructions for work performed within the section.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation, or field of expertise (e.g., Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation, heavy equipment, computer technology, electrical, electronic, occupational technology, civil or mechanical engineering, light rail vehicle, rail signal systems, etc.) or other related technical fields.
  2. Four (4) years progressive signal maintenance, repair, installation, and or electrical experience in a rail transit or Class I railroad environment.
  3. Valid Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A-Restricted, no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI on driving record, and not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months in order to operate DART vehicles; pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART vehicles. Must obtain license within ninety (90) days upon hire; pass physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment. Subject to 24-hour call in for emergency or unusual conditions; required to work various shifts.
  4. Interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of supervisory and non-supervisory employees and others both inside and outside of DART.
  5. Analytical skills to find solutions to problems of limited complexity.
  6. Personal computer (PC), software applications to include word processing and spreadsheet; typical office equipment such as copier, typewriter, calculator, facsimile, etc.
  7. Ability to be mobile frequently 50-75% of work time, exert moderate physical effort while standing, walking or lifting materials/tools/objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  8. Operates DART non-revenue vehicles as required such as crane and bucket truck, flatbed, trailers, etc.

Reports to Mgr Signal Systems *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
