GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides high level technical support for various network and computer systems to include addressing and resolving complex technical issues; developing, implementing, and administering enterprise networks and systems; and providing technical expertise to internal/external contacts in a 24 hour 7 days a week operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Addresses and resolves complex technical issues with internal/external contacts. Assists with problem resolution on referred calls from Network Operations Center.
  2. Performs complex network and system tasks in a multi-tiered environment by designing system configuration, directing system installation, defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
  3. Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and scheduling network upgrades.
  4. Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies, defining and monitoring access.
  5. Develops various reports and presentations for management review.
  6. Develops, budgets, tracks, and manages the implementation of enterprise networks and systems. Develops hardware and software migration plans, designs and analyzes requirements and specifications; and develops network production testing and change control procedures. Provides specifications for the acquisition of network devices as required.
  7. Develops and implements enterprise strategy and network security. Prepares and maintains network capacity plans, including routine backups, and deployment of disaster recovery plan.
  8. Analyzes enterprise job, system, LAN and WAN performances. Develops and implements short and long term system performance improvements.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Bachelor¿s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related field.
  2. Five (5) years networking experience in the following: (network application and performance monitoring tools; remote access administration; managed network switches, routers, firewalls, gateways; and wi-fi infrastructure).
  3. Ability to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of network hardware, software, and associated equipment, e.g. Ethernet, Routers, Switches, TCP/IP, MPLS, ISDN, T1, QOS, 802.11, etc.
  4. Thorough understanding of the Internet Protocols and Applications.
  5. Thorough understanding of Wireless Access Protocols and Applications.
  6. Configure and setup routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, and other network appliances.
  7. Ability to work variable shifts and work hours.
  8. High-level analytical and creative skills to find solutions to complex technical problems.
  9. Proficient using PC and software applications.
  10. High-level written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels, both inside and outside of DART.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Mgr Telecommunications *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
