GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for complex electronics maintenance and repair work on the rail vehicle and in an electronic lab type environment. Must be able to troubleshoot to component level. Maintain, troubleshoot, test, repair, install and calibrate rail vehicle systems and subsystems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Troubleshoots, tests, repairs and maintains complex vehicle electronic systems in the shop and in the field.
  2. Performs preventive maintenance inspections and repairs to the system and components including PC boards, microprocessors, auxiliary and low voltage regulation devices or subassemblies mechanical/electronic/electrical.
  3. Conducts diagnostic tests on systems and components with portable and on-board test equipment.
  4. Interprets current and voltage waveforms and graphs; uses drawings and schematics.
  5. Interprets circuit configurations and integrated circuit flow diagrams to develop and implement effective solutions for operational faults of vehicle systems and components.
  6. Responds to emergency calls.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Associates Degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, or equivalent combination of education/experience in preventative and corrective maintenance on electronics.
  2. Must pass a technical test.
  3. Must have a valid Texas Drivers License class C Restricted, no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty six (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  4. Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
  5. Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Mgr Fleet Services *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
