GENERAL SUMMARY:
Coordinates the acquisition, receipt, inventory and distribution of supplies and materials used by the DART Police Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Acquires supplies and materials used by DARTs Police Department through the administration of purchase orders, blanket purchase orders, contracts, and credit card purchases. Oversees procurements and works with contractors/vendors in resolving any issues that arise.
  2. Monitors incoming and outgoing shipments for correctness and compares shipments against vendors packing lists, bills of lading, actual orders, etc., to verify correctness; inspects received materials and rejects and reports damaged materials and variances. Some items must be picked up from vendors locations and will require the operation of a motor vehicle.
  3. Maintains records of goods received. Receives and releases purchase orders for payment authorization.
  4. Stocks and distributes supplies and materials used by DARTs Police Department and maintains records of distributed materials. Ensures required stock levels are maintained and insures the inventory remains accurate at all times. Researches and resolves inventory discrepancies. Enforces systems and procedures that are designed to maintain inventory accuracy and integrity.
  5. Prepares annual physical inventory plan to assist in departmental budget preparation.
  6. Interfaces with vendors, contractors, DARTs Procurement and Finance Departments, and other DART departments as needed, to acquire, receive, inventory, distribute, and pay for supplies and materials.
  7. Coordinates with DARTs Maintenance Department and outside vendors regarding department vehicle maintenance and services.
  8. Remains current on new law enforcement trends and equipment; researches, evaluates, and recommends the use of new equipment and/or services.
  9. Prepares various reports for management review.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
  2. Two (2) years progressively responsible experience in supply, materials and inventory receipts/issue coordination activities, warehousing/stocking, or related environment.
  3. Ability to use inventory and storeroom devices such as hand dolly, ladder, step stool, etc.
  4. Effective interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of supervisory and non-supervisory employees, government entities, a culturally diverse community, and others both inside and outside of DART.
  5. Strong analytical, organizational and reasoning skills and ability to work with rapidly changing projects and to find solutions to moderately complex problems.
  6. Proficient using PC and software applications.
  7. Ability to demonstrate a fiduciary obligation to section, division, department, and DART in handling materials and information of a confidential nature.
  8. Works independently with limited supervision. Organizes activities in order to complete task in accordance with priorities, addresses multiple demands, or meet deadlines.
  9. Valid Texas Class C Drivers License. No Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last 60 consecutive months; not more than one (1) on driving record. No more than three (3) moving violation convictions within last 36 months in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  10. Successful completion of selection process including but not limited to interview, polygraph exam, and background investigation, including criminal history investigation.
  11. Pass physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen.
  12. Physical ability and stamina to occasionally, approximately 25% of work time, walk, bend/stoop, stand, and lift objects weighing 40-50 pounds, such as boxes containing supplies, materials, furniture and equipment, while performing essential duties.

Reports to DART Police Sergeant *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
