GENERAL SUMMARY:
Supervises the activities of personnel on the respective shifts engaged in the operation of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Police Dispatch Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervises assigned personnel on their specific shift of the Police Dispatch Center.
  2. Performs Police Telecommunicator duties as needed.
  3. Assists Telecommunications Supervisor in reviewing and developing standard operating procedures for dispatch.
  4. Receives management information reports from Telecommunications Supervisor and distributes to their specific shift. Maintains logs and records in accordance with established procedures. Forwards records to Telecommunications Supervisor.
  5. Revises weekly work schedule prepared by the Telecommunications Supervisor for their particular shift.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Associates degree in business, communications, or related field.
  2. Certified Intermediate police telecommunicator by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
  3. Certified Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System operator by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  4. Two (2) years police dispatching experience to include one (1) years as a DART Police Telecommunicator.
  5. Successfully complete a Communications Trainer Course
  6. Written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels, both inside and outside of the DART organization.
  7. Analytical and creative skills to find solutions to problems of limited complexity.
  8. Proficient using PC and software applications.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to DART Police Sergeant *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
