GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for supervising the programs and activities of Bus Fleet Services personnel involved in cleaning and servicing operations for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Fleet Services Division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs routine supervisory duties related to the custodial and/or janitorial service functional area of assignment; provides support on special maintenance related projects.
  2. Assists section manager in his/her administrative responsibilities as it relates to labor relations, and the administration of service and consultant contracts; understand, execute, and recommend changes to policies and procedures established by senior management; ensure appropriate records are maintained pertaining to work performed.
  3. Provides guidance for the interpretation & application of DART policies and maintenance procedures.
  4. Performs needs assessment, develops detailed objectives, and detailed procedures.
  5. Manages and ensures contractor is in compliance with DART contract provisions including specifications and approved schedules as required.
  6. Supervises personnel involved with vehicle, facility and support equipment cleaning and servicing operations to ensure compliance with DART Standard Operating Procedures and programs.
  7. Schedules work on shift, make assignments to best utilize work force to meet vehicle requirements for daily service needs; verify daily time worked by assigned staff.
  8. Ensures compliance with DARTs Hazardous Waste Management and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Programs and conduct ongoing compliance inspections; promote established safety programs.
  9. Develops and implements training programs; Ensure compliance by staff with procedures in use of DART owned tools, shop equipment, and service vehicles.
  10. Studies, analyzes various cleaning procedures, equipment, and products, and recommend use; Authorize and verify requisitions for parts and supplies; makes an inventory of supplies and materials.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in field of expertise (e.g., Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation, Industrial Management or other technical fields applicable to DART Maintenance.
  2. Four (4) years progressive custodial and/or janitorial experience in a commercial environment including experience in a maintenance area on equipment (e.g., LRT system, coach maintenance, heavy equipment, LRT vehicle, or vehicle cleaning technology) utilized within DART.
  3. Valid Texas Drivers License Class C, no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI on driving record, and not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months in order to operate DART vehicles.
  4. Applicants and employees in these designated safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT/FTA regulations which include DOT preemployment drug testing and random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
  5. Ability to work irregular hours and irregular days off.
  6. Physical ability to be mobile and very frequently, more than 50% of work time, lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds such as parts, small hand tools, and equipment repair equipment.
  7. Analytical skills to gather and interpret data, and find solutions to complex technical problems.
  8. Ability to comprehend complex materials and concentrate on details.
  9. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all levels of supervisory and non-supervisory employees, and others both inside and outside of DART.
  10. Personal computer (PC); software applications such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheet, data base; typical office equipment such as copier, calculator, typewriter, facsimile, etc.
  11. Ability to use Fleet service equipment, cleaning services equipment , machinery, tools, fire, and shop safety devices and DART vehicles as required.

Reports to Mgr Facility Services *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
