GENERAL SUMMARY:
Supports the maintenance and inspection of revenue vehicles, (bus and light rail), non-revenue equipment, parts, and components for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Maintenance Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs routine supervisory duties related to maintenance service functional area of assignment; provides support on special maintenance projects.
  2. Inspects revenue and non-revenue equipment, parts, and/or components to ensure cleanliness, mechanical functioning, and for state of repair; Prepares maintenance work orders for repair/replacement of equipment and/or parts.
  3. Monitors equipment, parts, and components to ensure compliance to technical specifications, performance standards, and contract compliance. Monitors work orders to ensure work is complete and according to specifications.
  4. Recognizes trends identify problems, and recommends action to correct problems. Prepares statistical analysis and interprets results.
  5. Promotes established safety, training, technical support and quality assurance programs.Interacts with section personnel for the application of Quality in Motion (QIM) principles and processes.
  6. Assists with development of Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Practice Bulletins, Standard Campaign Bulletins and other documentation for preventative maintenance and quality assurances.
  7. Prepares a variety of reports for management review such as, statistical analysis, activities, etc.
  8. Assists with developing contract scope of work to purchase new or potential equipment, parts, and participate in pre-bid openings, conferences and meetings.
  9. Identifies items through analysis for warranty, fleet defects, system defects for recovery and/or upgrade with coordination through other sections and divisions until resolution is identified and implemented.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in field of expertise (e.g. Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation, heavy equipment, automotive, computer technology, electrical, electronic, occupational technology, curriculum development, engineering, coach maintenance, light rail vehicle, rail signal systems, or other technical fields applicable to DART Maintenance.
  2. Four (4) years progressive maintenance service experience in a technical environment including experience in a maintenance area on equipment (e.g., LRT system, Coach maintenance, heavy equipment, Bus/LRT vehicle, or maintenance support) utilized within DART.
  3. Must have a valid Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B with Passenger and air brakes Endorsements, no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty six (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART vehicles. Must obtain CDL within ninety (90) days upon hire.
  4. Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
  5. Ability to work irregular hours, and to be available to work on short notice. Also must be able to travel to offsite locations, which may be out of the county or stare for periods of time.
  6. Moderate physical ability to more than 50% of work time, walk/stand, bend/stoop, and frequently, more than 25% of work time, lift objects weighing more than 15 lbs., but less than 50 lbs. such as small hand tools, when performing inspection activities.
  7. Moderate analytical skills to find solutions to complex professional, technical, and administrative problems.
  8. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all levels of employees, contractors, venders, and others both inside and outside of DART.
  9. Personal computer (PC); software applications such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheet, data base; typical office equipment such as copier, calculator, typewriter, facsimile, etc.
  10. Inspection equipment and tools such as small hand and electrical tools, pressurized equipment, gauges, etc., and fire and safety devices as well as equipment to diagnose on-board electrical systems of the Authoritys revenue fleet and facilities.
  11. Operates DART non-revenue and revenue vehicles as required.

Reports to Project Manager I *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
