GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for maintenance, repair and rebuild of electronic components and systems. Must have the ability to troubleshoot complex electronic systems and components to a circuit board level. Duties may be performed in back-shop and field environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Troubleshoot, test, repair and maintain complex vehicle electronic systems and components in the shop and in the field.
  2. Conducts diagnostic tests on systems and components with portable and on-board test equipment.
  3. Interprets current and voltage waveforms and graphs; uses drawings and schematics.
  4. Operates electronic test equipment including voltmeters, oscilloscopes and Pin Point circuit testers.
  5. Interprets circuit configurations and integrated circuit flow diagrams to develop and implement effective solutions for operational faults of vehicle systems and components.
  6. Ensure cleanliness of shop area.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Associates Degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, or equivalent combination of education/experience in preventative and corrective maintenance on electronics.
  2. Must pass a technical test.
  3. Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position.
  4. Must be able to communicate in a clear and concise manner and read and comprehend a variety of technical manuals and safety regulations.
  5. Must have good oral and written communication skills with the ability to write clearly in a variety of communication styles and settings. Must be able to accurately restate or record incidents.
  6. Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to interact effectively with a diverse customer population while under pressure.
  7. Must have a valid Texas Drivers License class C; no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty six (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  8. Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
  9. Ability to find solutions to mechanical and technical problems.
  10. Ability to pick up technical things quickly; can learn new skills and knowledge through E-Learning or class room instruction; is good at learning new industry, company or technical knowledge.
  11. Ability to use logic to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; can see hidden problems; looks beyond the obvious and does not stop at the first answers.
  12. Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends, and short notice availability. May be required to travel to multiple work locations.
  13. Ability to lift objects weighing up to seventy (70) pounds such as tools, equipment, and parts; must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces on the vehicle, tunnel, and aerial structures.
  14. Operates DART non-revenue vehicles as required.
  15. Operates DART multi-axle vehicles, trucks, and service equipment as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Mgr Rail Fleet Maintenance *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
