GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs work relative to the installation, renovation, construction, repair, maintenance, and inspection of facilities for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Fleet Services Division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform assigned work relative to installation, renovation, construction, repair, maintenance, and inspection of facilities involving electrical, mechanical, heating, cooling, plumbing, pneumatic, hydraulic or piping, and work to include, but not limited to, bus and rail vehicle repair facilities and associated support systems, buildings and support systems, transit centers, park and ride lots, bus shelters, route signs, etc.
  2. Install, maintain, repair, and/or adjust bus and rail repair equipment such as air compressors, bus washers, blowers, overhead doors, air conditioning systems, metering devices, bus lifts, cleaning systems, and other servicing equipment.
  3. Conduct ongoing preventative maintenance.
  4. Operate heavy construction equipment in performing work such as backhoe, concrete breakers, saws, mixers, tampers, etc.
  5. Promote established safety, training, and quality assurance programs; clean work area.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Associates Degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Electronics, Plumbing, Heat/Air Conditioning, and/or Construction Technology, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  2. Must pass a technical test.
  3. Must have a valid Texas Drivers License class C, no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty six (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  4. Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
  5. Ability to be mobile and occasionally 70% - 80% of the work time. Lift objects weighing up to seventy - (70) pounds such as tools, equipment and parts. Must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces.
  6. Ability to find solutions to mechanical and technical problems.
  7. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all level of supervisory and non-supervisory employees and others both inside and outside of DART.
  8. Operates heavy construction equipment such as backhoe, concrete breaker, saw, mixer, tampers, etc.; Hand tools such as end wrench, screwdriver, spark plug wrench, torque wrench, sockets, hammers, electric drills, etc.; air operated tools, lifting devices, hydraulic and air presses, drill presses, lathes, value grinders, etc.
  9. Operates multi-axle vehicles, trucks, and service equipment as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Mgr Facility Services *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
