GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides technical and maintenance support functions for all Vehicle Business Systems (VBS) in multiple modes (Light Rail Transit System, Bus /NRV, and Paratransit) in DART Operations Technology. Responsible for analysis, testing and modification recommendations for all hardware and software applications related to VBS. This position will mentor and lead less experienced Platform Specialists by guiding them to best practices and guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversees and/or performs troubleshooting, bench testing and bench repair for VBS technology and APC technology.
  2. Provides expertise in VBS technology.
  3. Performs supervisory duties related to VBS technology software and hardware maintenance; supervises other VBS technicians and specialists.
  4. Inspects VBS equipment, parts, and/or components to ensure cleanliness, mechanical functioning, and for state of repair. Prepares maintenance work orders for repair/replacement of equipment and/or parts. Maintains an adequate tool and spare part inventory.
  5. Monitors VBS equipment, parts, and components to ensure compliance to technical specifications, performance standards, and contract compliance. Monitors work orders to ensure work is complete and according to specifications.
  6. Performs highly complex, low and high-level system analysis to recognize trends, identify problems, and recommend action to correct problems related to the VBS. Prepares statistical analysis and interprets results.
  7. Develops or assists with development of contract scope of work to purchase new or potential equipment, parts, participates in pre-bid openings, conferences and meetings. Develops and modifies Standard Operating Procedures, and other documentation for preventative maintenance and quality assurances.
  8. Promotes established safety, training, technical support and quality assurance programs.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Telecommunications or a related field.
  2. Three (3) years experience in the repair and/or maintenance of microcomputer systems.
  3. Proficient knowledge and competent in the use of Microsoft Windows operating and vehicle power systems.
  4. Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services. Acts with customers in mind. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.
  5. Ability to pick up on technical knowledge and issues quickly. Can learn new skills and knowledge. Is good at learning new industry, company, product, or technical knowledge. Does well in technical courses and seminars.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Head of ITS *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
