GENERAL SUMMARY:
The IT Lead Business Intelligence Programmer/Analyst position will assume a lead role and be part of the development team responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, and maintaining the BI infrastructure utilizing IBM Cognos Suite, Tableau and Crystal Reports . The IT Lead Business Intelligence Programmer/Analyst creates and maintains custom applications, analytics, and reports for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DARTs) Information Management and Decision Support (IMDS) Practice. He/She leads new analytical projects from concept through deployment and provides support for the production systems. He/She is also responsible for gathering requirements, project management, constructing functional designs, communicating with team members and business stakeholders, and supporting existing Business Intelligence applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Designs, develops and maintains solutions based on approved requirements for DART programs and the IMDS practice.
  2. Analyzes business needs, make recommendations, provide estimates, and design new BI/DW solutions.
  3. Helps Design and build an EDW that fits the organizations needs and is scalable for future growth.
  4. Delivers Business Intelligence solutions which includes, but not limited to, dashboards, scorecards, canned and ad-hoc reports with specific focus on data governance.
  5. Performs excellent data mining, data analysis, SQL query development, query optimization and BI/Reporting packages using large sets of data.
  6. Designs and develops reports using tools like Cognos, Tableau and Crystal reports, in addition to providing support and technical expertise to end users.
  7. Promotes the IMDS Practices solutions/capabilities to the business user community.
  8. Works with and helps develop the Data warehouse/SQL Development Lifecycle and standards.
  9. Ensures consistent data quality through the use of standards and applicable QA best practices.
  10. Identifies KPIs and extract requirements needed for business departments.
  11. Takes responsibility and ownership on projects and sees through their successful completion.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or a related field.
  2. Seven (7) years experience in an Information Management/BI industry to include (6) years experience in data warehouse and Business Intelligence architecture design and implementation. Experience with the following technologies: Cognos (BI, EP, TM1), Tableau (Desktop and Server experience is a plus), Crystal Reports; other reporting tools experience is a plus.
  3. Strong relational database and SQL skills in both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
  4. Proven interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills.
  5. Strong knowledge of relational databases and the ability to understand data models, diagrams, and data relationships between application systems.
  6. Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services. Acts with customers in mind. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.
  7. Ability to make good decisions (without considering how much time it takes) based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment). Most of his/her solutions and suggestions turn out to be correct and accurate when judged over time. Sought out by others for advice and solutions.
  8. Ability to pick up on technical things quickly. Can learn new skills and knowledge. Is good at learning new industry, company, product, or technical knowledge. Does well in technical courses and seminars.
  9. Ability to be able to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles. Can get messages across that have the desired effect.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Head of Data Analytics *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
