GENERAL SUMMARY:
The IT Software Engineer creates and maintains custom applications, analytics, and reports for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DARTs) ITS team. The ITS Software Engineer leads new analytical projects from concept through deployment and provides support for the production and vehicle systems. The ITS Software Engineer ensures consistent data quality through the use of standards and applicable best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops and maintains solutions based on approved requirements for DART programs and the enterprise environment.
  2. Develops programs for the Vehicle platform.
  3. Delivery of interface programming solutions with a specific focus on best practices and architectural guidelines.
  4. Follows best practices within DARTs software development processes.
  5. Reports requirements gathering and prototyping.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or related field.
  2. Six (6) years experience with at least one of the following: Windows Server, VMware ESX, VOIP, and UNIX.
  3. Two certifications are required in at least one of the following: MCSE in Windows 2003 (or higher), VMware VCP4 (or higher), NEC UNIVERGE 3C certification or HP-UX CSA certification. Candidates must currently have at least one Current certification. Candidates who do not currently posses more than one of these certifications must obtain the second certification within one year of appointment for continued employment.
  4. Exemplary analytical and creative skills to find solutions to complex technical problems.
  5. Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of enterprise hardware, software, and associated equipment.
  6. Ability to work variable work hours. Available in the event of required emergency response.
  7. Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Collects first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services. Acts with customers in mind. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.
  8. Ability to make good decisions (without considering how much time it takes) based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment). Most of his/her solutions and suggestions turn out to be correct and accurate when judged over time. Sought out by others for advice and solutions.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Head of ITS *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
