GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Director of Social Responsibility will build alliances with service area cities, non-profits, and other stakeholder organizations to identify common priorities and develop partnerships that further joint goals. This role will support DARTs Social Responsibility (DSR) efforts including activities related to homelessness, human trafficking, urban farming, employee volunteerism, and sustainability. DART recognizes the importance of supporting our employees and local communities, prioritizing sustainable business processes, and addressing the social challenges that face our customers. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director will play a lead role in executing DARTs social responsibility strategy. This individual will help execute and grow participation in DARTs employee volunteerism programs. They will act as DSR team lead across sustainability initiatives. The Director will play a role in developing and executing the communications strategy for the DSR division, including marketing successes and spearheading development of the annual report.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Strategy Development - Identifies and compiles a list of social needs that are linked to the Authoritys core operations and have high shared-value potential. Creates DARTs Social responsibility strategy by identifying key social issues that have the highest potential impact on DARTs ridership and business objectives while simultaneously benefit society.
  2. Strategy Adoption - Generates creative ideas and provides strategic guidance and recommendations on how to continually improve and evolve DARTs social responsibility initiatives. Provides tools for business partners to spot opportunities where DSR can create shared value for the ridership, organization, and society.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement - Conducts outreach and builds, maintains, and cultivates relationships with agency leaders and community organizations. Builds relationships with local communities identifies key DSR-related issues that communities care about, and helps formulate the organizations response to these issues. Supports business partners in championing DSR agenda with key communities and facilitates interactions between these. Drives employee engagement in DSR objectives by coaching and enabling employees to see the value of each objective, how it relates to their everyday work helping them actively contribute to Authoritys objectives by becoming effective advocates of DSR-related issues.
  4. Defines benchmarks and standards to measure the impact of DSR initiatives on targeted business outcomes.
  5. Manages volunteerism programs, including Volunteer Week. Act as primary point of contact with external non-profits and recommends best practices as DART looks to grow employee participation.
  6. Reviews and responds to unsolicited in-kind and cash investment requests, including making recommendations and evaluating requests.
  7. Acts as DSR team lead across various DART sustainability initiatives.
  8. Develops and executes the communications strategy for the DSR division, including spearheading development of the DSR Annual Reports, publications and Board of Director briefings.
  9. Track record of managing projects and details successfully.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Management, Economics, Government, Communication, Environmental Science, or related field.
  2. Ten (10) years experience in a Corporate Citizenship, Branded Sponsorship, or other relationship management setting to include five (5) years managing a professional staff.
  3. Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  4. Excellent Board level communication and presentation skills.
  5. Strong understanding of a corporate social responsibility function.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  7. Strong writing and research skills.
  8. Ability to build and maintain successful business partnerships in a political, nonprofit, or corporate policy advocacy setting.
  9. Ability to plan and facilitate stakeholder engagement opportunities such as roundtables or convenings for productive outcomes.
  10. Ability to collaborate across different teams with a solutions-oriented mindset.
  11. Ability to implement tactics and strategies that influence executives and board members.
  12. Able to clarify and summarize complex issues with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  13. Ability to work on a broad and extensive portfolio of issues instead of diving deep into one or two issues.
  14. Ability to incorporate social equity into your work in a way that doesnt feel superficial and how to reach out to partner organizations and build alliances.
  15. Ability to understand (and strong interest in) DARTs core services and the social issues we are seeking to impact.
  16. Ability to interact thoughtfully and effectively with internal and external stakeholders at a variety of seniority levels.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to EVP Admininstrative Officer *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
