Salary will range from $48,721.00 to $70,888.00 will be relevant to either a I, II or III slotting. MES II: Bachelors Degree or equivalency, 15 college credit hours, and 6 years progressive experience in designated field of expertise, to include 3 years overseeing work of support/subordinate staff. MES III: Bachelors Degree or equivalency, 30 college credit hours, and 8 years progressive experience in designated field of expertise, to include 5 years overseeing work of support/subordinate staff.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provide engineering technical support, assist with development of product specifications, statements of work, code investigations and needs assessments for all applicable systems and/or applicable infrastructure upgrading, modifications or repairs of the Light Rail Transit System, and/or Bus and/or Non Revenue Vehicles (NRV) and Facilities maintained by DART Maintenance Department. Systems include applicable: Buses and non-revenue vehicles, Light Rail Vehicles, Signals, Traction Electrification, Fare Collection Communications and Amenities. Infrastructure includes: Service Garages, Transit and Light Rail Stations, parking facilities, bridges, tunnels and corrosion control inspections.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform routine duties related to technical area of assignment and develop, assist and support the development of product Technical Specifications, Statements of Work (SOW), and developing engineering modifications for special maintenance projects. Analyze maintenance, and general service records to identify problem with equipment or bus operations and recommend improvements as required; interface with operators, upper management, and sub-contractors. Recommend system improvements as required.
  2. Assist with the development and reviews of engineering reports, documentation, technical documentation, testing criteria and verification and recommend methods for streamlining procedures; assist in review of trend analysis of substandard or defective systems to isolate cause(s) associated with failure.
  3. Assist with product data reviews and test method verification and site inspections for confirmation to specifications or SOW requirements identified per applicable codes, and identified within contract documents (SOW, drawings and specifications).
  4. Assist in design, development, release, and implementation of systems, equipment and/or changes for continuous improvement to systems normal operations.
  5. Maintain as-built configuration of systems.
  6. Provide technical support and inspections as requested on various projects and acts as a liaison between various DART divisions, departments and external contacts regarding technical support and related issues.
  7. Promote development and assist in improvements to established safety, training and preventative maintenance programs.
  8. Assist the Project Managers III in preparation and development of a variety of reports for management review.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in Transportation, Electrical, Mechanical, Architecture/Civil Engineering or related field.
  2. Four (4) years progressively responsible engineering experience in mass transit system or related maintenance environment.
  3. Must have a valid Texas class C drivers license, no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty six (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  4. Ability to demonstrate a fiduciary obligation to section, division, department, and DART in handling materials and information of a confidential nature
  5. Analytical ability to find solutions to engineering, technical, and operational problems. Recognized project management skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability for utilizing the Internet and other methods to assist with gathering technical data.
  7. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate to all levels, both inside and outside of DART.
  8. Ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles. Can get messages across to achieve the desired effect
  9. Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
  10. Ability to make good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, knowledge, experience, and judgment.
  11. Ability to use rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions. Probes all potentially viable sources for answers.
  12. Ability to employ sound root cause analysis techniques to identify otherwise concealed problems. Looks beyond the obvious and doesn?t stop at the first answers.
  13. Proficient using a personal computer (PC), which includes software applications utilized to complete word processing, spreadsheet, and database and audio visual Presentations.
  14. Knowledge of the operation and function of engineering tools, and measuring devices such as gauges, electronic diagnosis test units, small hand tools, pressure equipment, etc.
  15. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and climb ladders

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Project Mgr II-Rail Systems *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
