GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for supervising the programs and activities of Rail Central Support personnel involved with repair and inspection of Revenue Equipment for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Fleet Services Division.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Performs routine supervisory duties related to maintenance service functional area of assignment; provides support on special maintenance projects
- Schedules work on shift, makes assignments to best utilize workforce to meet Rail Services Goals and Objectives. Verifies daily time worked by assigned staff.
- Supervises repair and service of electronic revenue collection equipment, electronic destination signs. Assists staff with diagnosis of repairs.
- Interviews, selects, develops, trains, supervises, evaluates, counsels, and if necessary, recommends termination of subordinate personnel in accordance with established policies, procedures and guidelines to include EEO/AA program goals and objectives.
- Opens work orders and checks recent repair history using computer terminal.
- Authorizes and verifies requisitions for parts and supplies. Makes an inventory of parts and materials.
- Ensures appropriate records are maintained pertaining to work performed.
- Understands, executes, and recommends changes to policies and procedures established by senior management.
- Promotes established safety programs and takes precautions to ensure appropriate procedures are followed by staff in use of DART owned tools, shop equipment, and service vehicles.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications. - Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university or accredited technical program in engineering, electrical, electronic technology, or related field. Must have a minimum of 30 credit hours from an accredited technical program in specified courses as identified in the Career Ladder; experience will not substitute for these required credit hours.
- Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in electronic repair and maintenance in a technical environment including experience in a maintenance area on equipment. (e.g., coach maintenance, heavy equipment, LRT vehicle, or maintenance support equipment) utilized within DART Fleet Services to include five (5) years of experience overseeing the work of support staff and/or subordinate staff.
- Valid Texas Drivers License with, no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI on driving record, and not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months in order to operate DART vehicles.
- Applicants and employees in these designated safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT/FTA regulations which include DOT pre-employment drug testing and random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
- Ability to work irregular hours and irregular days off.
- Physical ability to be mobile and very frequently, more than 50% of work time, occasionlly lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds such as parts, small hand tools, and equipment repair equipment.
- Analytical skills to gather and interpret data, and find solutions to complex technical problems.
- Ability to comprehend complex materials and concentrate on details.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all levels of supervisory and non-supervisory employees, and others both inside and outside of DART.
- Personal computer (PC); software applications such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheet, data base; typical office equipment such as copier, calculator, typewriter, facsimile, etc.
- Ability to use Fleet service equipment, machinery, tools, fire, and shop safety devices.
- Operate DART vehicles as required.
