GENERAL SUMMARY:
Supports the maintenance and inspection of revenue vehicles (bus and light rail), non-revenue equipment, parts, and components for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Engineering Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs supervisory duties relating to complex maintenance projects managing the resources and activities of tool calibration program, oil analysis, warranty administration, tire leasing contracts, and technical responsibility for DARTs contracts.
  2. Inspects revenue and non-revenue equipment, parts, and/or components to ensure cleanliness, mechanical functioning, and state of repair. Prepares maintenance work orders for repair/replacement of equipment and/or parts.
  3. Monitors equipment, parts, and components to ensure compliance to technical specifications, performance standards, and contract compliance. Monitors work orders to ensure work is complete and according to specifications. Recognizes trends identify problems, and recommends action to correct problems. Prepares statistical analysis, interprets results, and demonstrates technical writing skills.
  4. Promotes established safety, training, technical support, and quality assurance programs.
  5. Develops or assists with the development of Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Practice Bulletins, Standard Campaign Bulletins, and other documentation for preventative maintenance and quality assurances.
  6. Prepares a variety of reports for management review such as statistical analysis, activities, etc.
  7. Develops or assists with developing contract scope of work to purchase new or potential equipment and parts, participating in pre-bid openings, conferences, and meetings.
  8. Identifies items through analysis for warranty, fleet defects, system defects for recovery and/or upgrade with coordination through other sections and divisions until a resolution is identified and implemented.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  1. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Transportation, Computer Technology, Electronics Technology or related field.
  2. Six (6) years progressive maintenance service experience in a technical environment and experience in a maintenance area on equipment LRV system, Fleet equipment, LRV vehicle, or maintenance support utilized within DART, to include three (3) years of supervising the work of support staff and/or subordinate staff.
  3. Must have a valid Texas Drivers License (DL), no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months on driving record to operate DART vehicles.
  4. Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety-sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
  5. Ability to work irregular hours and to be available to work on short notice. Also, must be able to travel to offsite locations, which may be out of the county or state for periods of time.
  6. Proficiency on a personal computer (PC) and knowledge of software applications, including proficiency in Lawson, Ripplestone, Microsoft Office applications of Word, Excel, PowerPoint or other related software applications and office equipment, etc.
  7. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all levels of employees, contractors, vendors, and others both inside and outside of DART.
  8. Moderate analytical skills to find solutions to complex professional, technical, and administrative problems.
  9. Inspection equipment and tools such as small hand and electrical tools, pressurized equipment, gauges, etc., and fire and safety devices, and equipment to diagnose on-board electrical systems of the Authorities revenue fleet and facilities.
  10. Operates DART non-revenue and revenue vehicles as required.
  11. Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services. Acts with customers in mind. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.

Reports to Mgr Bus Fleet Engineering *

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
